Menopause can be a costly business

It may not come as a surprise that women over 50 represent a significant and growing percentage of the workforce, and according to the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, almost eight out of 10 of menopausal women are in work - which equates to 10.5 million women currently going through the various stages of menopause.

A 2019 survey conducted by the CIPD found that three in five menopausal women—usually aged between 45 and 55—were negatively affected at work, and that almost 900,000 women in the UK had left their jobs because of menopausal symptoms. This all leads to menopause costing a huge amount to British industry.

Employers are increasingly realising that it makes good business sense to create a more menopause friendly environment, not only for the women going through the transition but also the men who will have partners, family members and colleagues affected by it.

I have personally experienced the debilitating symptoms and isolation of early menopause while in a busy corporate role and I now really enjoy working with organisations to equip managers & HR teams with the tools and strategies to handle menopause conversations with confidence. This can in turn can reduce absenteeism and increase retention by supporting employees through midlife transitions.
